The Ohio Buckeye Speed League rule concerning skater numbers was amended on August 17, 2003. The amendment provides:

The League is responsible for providing each skater with one set of helmet numbers. If a skater needs an additional number they can purchase a set of numbers for $1.00 or an individual number for $0.50. Numbers will be available for sale during each League Meet.

General Information

League Fees
$20 - Annual Club Dues for teams located in the state of Ohio that wish to have voting rights. (Teams outside of Ohio are not required to pay club dues.)
$15 - First Event Entry Fee. (Entry fees must be sent in with club meet entry.)
$7 - Each Additional Event Entry Fee
$3 - Admission fee for spectators only at HALF DAY meets.

$5 - Admission fee for all skaters and spectators at FULL DAY meets.

The Ohio Buckeye Speedskating League, Inc. will pay the host rink $3 per skater registered for the event. Skaters will receive a wristband from their coach prior to the meet to avoid paying the admission fee, if the skater loses their wrist band they will required to pay the admission fee.
Hosted Races

The Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed League will host races in the following Divisions:

A. Novice Inline Division
B. Standard Inline Division
C. Quad Division

Recreational Division was discontinued by popular vote on 9/22/04.



Official Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed League Rules

1.   The referees at any Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed League Meet must be from at least two different USARS Clubs.
2.   All referees must hold a current and verified USARS Speed Commission.

3.   Number of referees required at Ohio League meets:

  • 100 to 124 Skaters - 3 Referees
  • 125 to 200 Skaters - 4 Referees
  • 200+ Skaters - 5 Referees
4.   It is mandatory that contestant numbers and all entry fees be submitted with meet entries. The failure to comply may be considered no entry and be returned to the violating club. This will disqualify the club from the meet.
5.   All speed meet invitations or announcements must specify the size of the track and the type of coating used.
6.   All races must have no more than 7 skaters on the starting line. If there are more than permitted on the line, heats must be run. Whenever there are 4 or more heats, semi-finals must be skated.
7.   No event will be run more than 1 1/2 hours ahead of schedule, unless approved by all official coaches with skaters that are participating in the meet.
8.   All races that are recognized nationally must be the official distances, unless approved by all official coaches with skaters that are participating in the meet.
9.   Division relays may be cut to conserve time.
10.   Primary skaters are not permitted to skate relays unless it is a specially relay for primary or Novice Skaters under the age of 8.
11.   Challenging up is permitted. Skaters may move up 1 Division. No challenging up is permitted in relays or Novice division races.
12.   Open Races will be classed as:
  • Elementary Opens 11 and Under
  • Sophomore Opens 12 to 15
  • Senior Opens 16 and Over
13.   Novice Skaters can skate in open 3 person relay races as long as all skaters are not Novice skaters.
14.   All skaters must be in full uniform to receive their awards on the podium; otherwise, they may receive it after the awards ceremony has been completed.

16.   All J.O. and Standard Skaters must have their permanent skating card after 1 league meet. We will no longer accept 1-day cards after you have skated your first Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed Meet. Recreational Skaters are permitted to purchase 1-day cards for more than 1 Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed League Meet. (Amended 9/28/02.)

The Ohio Buckeye Speed League will provide each skater with a pair of 2 inch sticky-back numbers. Skaters should wear numbers on both sides of the helmet above the ear. Additional blank numbers will be supplied to the coaches as replacement numbers. Replacement numbers will also be available at League Meets for $1 a pair or 50 cents each. (Amended 8-17-03).



Award Structure


Individual Awards
1.   Awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place overall skaters in Standard and Novice divisions in the awards ceremony after all of the races conclude. (Amended 9/22/04)

2.   Awards will be determined by adding the individual race points together in each division.

3.   The points breakdown for individual races is as follows:

30 points for 1st place, 20 points for 2nd place, 10 points for 3rd place.

If skaters have the same amount of points, tie breaker points will be used. The new tie breaker points will automatic tabulated with the new Skater tabulation program (This rule was approved 9/28/02.)
4.   At each Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed League Meet, a record will be kept of the points that each skater receives.
5.   At the end of the Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed League season, overall awards will be presented to the skater who has accumulated the most points in their division.
6.   Skaters must skate at least 1 more than half the schedule Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed meets to be eligible for overall year end awards. For example, if there are six meets included in the tour, the skater must have competed in at least 4 of them to qualify.
7.   Overall year-end awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners of Standard and Novice divisions.
Team Awards
1.   Team awards will be presented to the top 3 overall teams in Novice and Standard Divisions at the end of the Ohio Buckeye Roller Speed League Season.
2.   Relay Points do not count for overall year-end team awards.
